Hotel Kampa ****

The Hotel Kampa is one of the most charming hotels in Prague. Its spectacular central location just by Kampa Island and park is still far from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist paths; making this the ideal discrete central hideaway.

But what really impresses us is the gloriously over-the-top Medieval theme to the place. The "Knight's Hall" restaurant looks like a medieval banqueting hall straight from a Holywood set; complete with a vast assortment of medeival weaponry, armour, and instruments of dubious purpose (mostly reproduction but still eye catching). The bulding itself dates from the 17th century, and rooms are elegantly appointed keeping in the style.

The hotel features all the usual 4* service and facilities, notably Wireless Internet access (WLAN). Breakfast is a sumptuous buffet in the Knights Hall. The bar if possible is even more atmospheric than the banqueting hall.

The location as noted is superb. You are less than 10 minutes walk from the Charles Bridge (and best of all you can do the walk through the lovely Kampa island park along the river), and is convenient to a main tram line and not too far from Malostranksa metro station. (Map and directions)

Some of our favourite 'hidden' Prague pubs are nearby - try the friendly and completely unknown Tlusta Myš <means 'fat mouse'!> just across the alley, and you are spoiled for choice for good restaurants if you can tear yourself away from the Medieval hall... Try Sovovy Mlyn on Kampa island, or the nearby inimitable U Modre Kachnicky (Blue Duckling) which if possible is even more romantic than the Kampa restaurant.
